The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) Airfoil database is a growing list of airfoil coordinate files and their images.  Before 1995, the database had a total collection of about 160 low Reynold's number airfoils.  In 1995 David Lednicer contributed his personal collection of over 800 airfoils and the total number of airfoils grew to over 1000.  Since then, the UIUC aerospace department has been constantly contributing more and more airfoils.

Today the database has over 1500 airfoils for use in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), gas turbines, jet aircraft, model Remote Control (RC) aircraft, and many more applications. The airfoils are organized alphabetically by their primary designation. To find a particular airfoil, the user is recommended to use the "Find" function of their web browser and search for specific key words attributing to the airfoil. For each airfoil, an image of the airfoil and a DAT file is included which lists the scaled coordinates of the airfoil in the standard UIUC format.

With the expanding airfoil database, the UIUC aerospace department also holds updated versions of a couple of archives which are invaluable.  openAE is hosting version 2.0 of these wonderful archives, and they can be downloaded either from the UIUC Airfoil website, or below:

  1. Collection of Airfoil Coordinate Files for UNIX Systems (MAC OS, Linux) | DOWNLOAD
  2. Collection of Airfoil Coordinate Files for Windows Systems | DOWNLOAD
  3. Collection of Airfoils in CAD DXF format (Thanks to Bill Gilmore) | DOWNLOAD

The UIUC Airfoil database contains a wealth of information and should be in the bookmarks of any aeronautical engineer.
