SciLab is an interpreted programming language with similar script to that of MATLAB. It is open source and free to download here. SciLab is ideal for calculation based applications with its hundreds of built in mathematical functions. The original software was born in the 1980's. It was created by the IRIA at Rocquencourt in France and originally called CACSD (Computer Aided Control System Design); however, after several business changes, SciLab 1.1 became free open source software in 1994.
